I really enjoy this book. My friends love to flip thru it when they come over to my house. I say enjoy, because you can look thru it many times and always notice something new.
I purchased this gift for my Mom for Christmas. I am not sure that she has actually gotten to look through it yet. All visitors to their house on Christmas day picked up the book and looked through it. It captures your attention and is difficult to put down until you have at least glanced at all of the photos. It is like getting a sneak peak into Hollywood films and the making of films that we would never get to see. A delightful book that any movie lover (especially these movies and movie stars) will thoroughly enjoy.
Amazing photography. Fuchs manages to capture some of the best shots I have seen with an insight that is spot on. The writing is also inspiring. Really gets into what it was like to be a young photographer starting out in Hollywood. I ordered the book on a whim and when it arrived it arrived the quality of the book brought the images and words to life. It is larger than I expected and truly beautiful. I immediately went back and bought three more for Christmas presents. Absolutely stunning. A great present for anyone interested in Photography, Hollywood, classic films or iconic stars. The stories also go into some interesting anecdotes wich I won't give away. I love it. One of those coffee table books that I find myself continuously flipping through and going back to different parts to look at and reread.
If you're a fan of Hollywood's Golden Era, then this is definitely a book worth getting. This book is filled with some incredibly beautiful photos, posed and candid. I couldn't stop turning the page to see who would pop up next. And the stories that accompany the photos/assignments were a great window into that world.
If there is one time period that has infinite popularity, it is Old Hollywood. Therefore, I must say that Leo Fuchs could not have picked a more fitting subject. The glamour, the decadence, the high-class taste of these moments in history come out even more refined and impeccable through the lens of a camera. The high quality and unique touch that these photographs bring to fans of photography, Old Hollywood, and Leo Fuchs himself are things that will cause this book to have the same everlasting effect as its subject.
I thought so much of this book, especially as a Christmas gift, that I purchased and gave away three of them!! It's glorious photography by a master.
This is a must for movie lovers, and fans who know what a "real" movie star is. A nice visual tribute to Hollywoods glamorous past.
The photographs are wonderful, but the text is filled with grammatical errors, which should have been addressed before it went to print. The 'dish' on the stars is mild, so if you're looking for gossip, there's very little here because Fuchs seemed to like everyone. Which is not such a bad thing. But the four stars are for the photographs which are terrific.
